The Woman Who Witnesses
I almost didn’t write this one.
Not because I didn’t have anything to say — I had too much, actually, the way you do when something shifts quietly underneath you and you’re not quite sure yet if you’re allowed to trust it.
The thing I needed to say at the start felt dangerous to say out loud.
I think this is momentum.
And the moment I thought those words, something old and well-trained in me flinched. Waiting for the jinx. Waiting for the universe to overhear and course-correct. Waiting for the impending-rug-pull that experience has taught me lives underneath every good thing.
I’ve been here before — or somewhere that looked enough like here to fool me.
I’ve felt the green shoots of something building and watched them frost over. I’ve called things momentum that turned out to be adrenaline. I’ve paid for that confusion in ways that took a long time to recover from.
So, when this feeling arrived this week — quietly, without fanfare, more like a change in the quality of the air than any single identifiable event — I noticed the flinch. I noticed the old instinct to look away from the good thing, as if not looking directly at it was somehow the safest way to protect it.
And then I did something different: I looked directly at it.
Not at the story I might be tempted to make up about it. Not the hopeful story, not the “this is finally it” story, not the story where momentum means safety and safety means I can finally exhale all the way down. That story has gotten me into trouble before. It has a way of inflating things past what the evidence can actually support, and then the crash when reality catches up feels like failure even when it isn’t.
Just the actual evidence. Clear-eyed. Like a scientist who also happens to be exhausted and slightly fibro-achy and on her second cup of coffee before 9am on a Sunday.
What was actually, verifiably, measurably there.
Here is what was actually there — and where I discovered the quiet magic-flywheel… that cog in the machine that makes everything else go...
🔒 You’ve found the part of the Grove that’s just for us — the paid subscribers who showed up for the unfiltered version. Below is where I get into the real specifics — the actual numbers from this week’s Sovereign Sunday review, what the data actually said versus what the spiral tried to tell me, and some questions worth sitting with if you’re doing your own quiet (re)build.
