Five of Cups â Loss, Liberation, and the Beauty That Remains
This morning, the Five of Cups walked into my den â and it came with company. A dream visitation, the kind that doesnât fade like mist but clings like meaning.
And I want to share it with you in two parts â because this card isnât just about what spills. Itâs about what remains.
𪜠Part 1: For the Writers
The Five of Cups is the card of grief, disappointment, and that gut-punch feeling when something we trusted betrays us. Itâs the dye dumped on your hair by âfriendsâ who donât see your beauty, (yep, that was not a good dream! LOL) the manuscript draft torn apart by a critic who doesnât know your heart.
Itâs the place weâve all stood: staring at the overturned cups, replaying the loss, forgetting to notice the two still upright behind us.
For writers, this card shows up when:
You get caught in loops about projects you âshould have finished by now.â
You compare yourself to others and feel like your creativity isnât enough.
You feel betrayed by friends, colleagues, or even your own inner voice.
But hereâs the medicine:
The Five of Cups isnât only about grief. Itâs about turning. Pivoting. Noticing. The two cups still standing are your future readers, your untapped stories, your resilience.
This card invites you to:
Name the loss â grief doesnât vanish if ignored.
Release the dye-dumpers â the voices who criticize without care.
Accept new help â the dreamâs younger woman who lovingly fixed the hair points to real-world allies who see you.
Writers donât just create stories. Writers live them. And when loss shows up, the bravest act is to honor it â and then choose what remains.
đŻď¸ Todayâs Practical Magick
Do a mini release ritual: write one regret on paper, tear it, and let it go.
Then speak aloud two things youâre grateful for that are still standing.
Bonus: Wear a touch of color (hair clip, scarf, pen ink) as a nod to your future, more vibrant self.
