The Magician — The Altar Is Already Stacked

On the difference between gathering your tools and actually raising your paw.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

The Magician is not a card about power. She is a card about using it.

She stands at a stone altar absolutely stacked with books — not props, not decoration, but tools. Everything she has ever learned, studied, carried, and mastered is right there within reach. One paw is raised toward the cosmos. Pink and cyan energy spirals outward from her in great constellation arcs, star-sparks answering from every corner of the sky. The universe itself is leaning in.

She is not asking if she’s ready.

She already knows she is. She counted the tools. She knows what’s on that altar. She knows what lives in her and what exists in the cosmos and that the connection between those two things is already open, already active, already sparking.

All she had left to do was raise her paw.

Writers, I want to ask you something directly: what’s sitting on your “altar” right now?

Because here is what I know about us. We are extraordinary collectors. We gather research documents and half-finished outlines. We take the courses and — sometimes 😏 — actually complete them. 🤪 We write newsletters we never send and draft chapters we never publish and accumulate years of genuine, hard-won craft knowledge. We read every book on structure and voice and genre and market. We build the systems. We make the plans.

The altar is stacked.

And then we stand in front of it, arms at our sides, waiting to feel ready.

The Magician doesn’t wait. The Magician doesn’t ask “what if it works?” She asks “what shall I make?” She doesn’t need one more resource, one more course, one more week of preparation before she’s allowed to begin. She has already begun. The preparation was the beginning. And now the beginning is over, and it is time to raise the paw and call the thing in.

You know more than you think you do. You have built more than you’ve launched. You have learned more than you’ve applied. The tools are yours — every single one of them — and they don’t do anything while you’re standing in front of them asking for permission.

The altar is already stacked. The question was never whether you had enough. The question is: what are you calling in?

Today is a raising-the-paw day. Not a gathering day. Not a planning day. A pointing day.

What are you pointing at?

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

Before you open whatever you’re working on today, take sixty seconds. Put both hands flat on your desk or your keyboard. Look at one thing you’ve already built — one piece of the altar. Name it out loud or in your head: “I made this. This is mine. This is a tool and I know how to use it.”

Then open the file.

Raise the paw.

Call the thing down. 🌟🐾

This is where The Mojo Mama Bear gets bear-bones honest about what the card stirred up this morning, and what it looks like in a real, unglamorous, unsexy Wednesday in the life of a working author who just realized her altar has been stacked for longer than she knew.
