The Tower — When the Lightning Is Yours
There’s a storm outside my window right now.
I mean that literally — we’ve got heavy rain, thunder, a wind advisory, and a side of possible tornado energy just to keep things interesting. 🌩️🌪️
And I pulled The Tower this morning.
Of course I did. 😄
The universe has absolutely no chill and I respect it completely.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
Let’s talk about what The Tower actually is — because I think we’ve been taught to fear it, and that fear is costing us something.
The Tower is the card of necessary collapse.
Not random destruction. Not punishment. Not the universe deciding you’ve had enough good days and it’s time to knock you around a little.
Necessary collapse.
The lightning doesn’t strike a well-built structure. It finds the thing held together by fear, by habit, by the slow accumulation of “this isn’t working but I don’t know how to stop” — and it reveals it. Honestly. Completely. Without apology.
And here’s what nobody puts on the pretty tarot card graphics:
Sometimes YOU are the one who calls the lightning.
Sometimes The Tower isn’t something that happens to you.
Sometimes you’ve been quietly, deliberately, brick by brick — pulling your own Tower card.
I think a lot of us who write — who create — who are trying to build something real out of the raw material of our lives and our imagination — we know this feeling.
The moment you realize the schedule you’ve been keeping isn’t serving your writing, it’s consuming it.
The moment you look at a client, a commitment, a relationship, a habit — and you finally let yourself see it clearly for what it is instead of what you hoped it would be.
The moment you stop propping up the structure that was never built right and let it come down so you can build something that actually holds.
That’s The Tower as chosen act. That’s the writer picking up the lightning bolt instead of running from it.
🔥 The Tower asks you:
Where in your creative life are you maintaining a structure you already know isn’t working — out of fear of the gap it would leave?
What would you build if you weren’t so busy holding up what’s already falling?
What has the lightning been trying to show you that you’ve been too tired, too scared, or too busy to look at directly?
🐾 Here’s what I want you to hear, creative soul:
The gap after the Tower is not failure. It’s foundation.
The cleared ground is where the real thing gets built.
You don’t have to know yet what rises. You just have to trust that what falls needed to fall — and that you are more than capable of building again.
You’ve already survived every Tower that’s come for you so far.
Every single one.
Today’s Practical Magick:
When something falls apart today — a plan, an expectation, a version of how you thought things would go — pause before you try to catch it.
Ask yourself: “Is this mine to hold up? Or is this the lightning doing its job?”
Sometimes the most powerful creative act is letting the collapse complete. 🌩️
