Queen of Wands — She Doesn't Wait for Permission
On carrying the torch when the morning is puffy, the sinuses are staging a coup, and the work still needs doing anyway.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Queen of Wands is not a card about perfect conditions.
She is not standing in that image because everything aligned — because the sleep was deep and the energy was full and the stars had arranged themselves into a neat, cooperative formation. She is standing there because she picked up the torch and started walking, and the stars showed up for her.
Look at her. Purple robes loose and flowing — the kind you wear when you move through the world on your own terms. In one hand, a tall wand blazing with fire that reaches toward the night sky, a small orange bird perched right on it like a familiar who came because the warmth was irresistible. In the other, a sunflower — held not like an accessory, but like a choice. At her chest, a golden medallion with fire sealed inside, as if to say: I carry this even when no one can see it. And above her, a blazing compass star burns so brightly in the deep blue dark that it could be a second sun.
She isn’t looking at the ground. She isn’t checking her footing or her plan or whether anyone is watching.
She is looking up. Right at that star. With a slight smile that says she already knows exactly where she’s going.
The Queen of Wands shows up for writers at a very specific moment: not when everything is going right, but when you finally stop asking for permission and start moving anyway.
She is the energy that says: I don’t need it to be perfect to begin. I don’t need anyone to hand me the torch. I carry my own.
Writers — especially the sensitive, deeply-feeling, quietly ambitious ones — are extraordinary at waiting.
We wait until we’re ready. Until the platform is bigger, the story is clearer, the fear is smaller, the timing is better. We wait for someone to confirm that yes, we are allowed to want this much, take up this much space, make this much noise. We wait for the conditions to cooperate before we dare to light the thing.
The Queen of Wands has never waited a day in her life.
And here is what she wants you to understand, the thing she’s standing there in the wildflowers trying to show you with every ounce of her blazing, sunflower-holding, bird-gathering warmth:
The bird doesn’t come before the fire. The bird comes because of it.
That small companion perched on her wand? That’s inspiration. Creative flow. The ideas that seem to arrive from nowhere at exactly the right moment. You don’t summon those by waiting for perfect conditions. You summon them by moving — by being warm enough, lit enough, in motion enough — and then watching what finds its way to you.
She isn’t asking whether the conditions are right. She’s asking whether you are ready to be the warmth that draws everything else in.
Where in your creative life have you been waiting for permission that was always yours to give?
What torch have you been setting down because it didn’t feel like the “right time” to carry it?
What might come and perch beside you — what small, bright thing — if you simply started walking?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
Before you open your project — the manuscript, the draft, the thing you’ve been circling — pause for just a moment.
Place one hand over your chest, right where the medallion would be. Take one slow breath in. And say this quietly, like you mean it:
I don’t need permission. I carry my own fire. I begin.
Then begin. The bird will come. 🔥🐾
