Judgement â The Call You've Been Hearing
On answering the thing that has been trying to reach you â even when youâre tired, even when youâre scared, even when youâre not sure youâre ready.
đď¸ Part 1: For the Writers
The Judgement card does not tiptoe.
It doesnât slide a note under your door or send a polite email asking if you might have a moment sometime next week when itâs convenient. It doesnât whisper.
It calls.
In traditional decks, Judgement arrives with an angel and a trumpet â figures rising from graves in response to a sound so clear, so resonant, so undeniable that staying down simply stops being an option.
In the Bear Bones Tarot, it arrives like this:
A golden bear on rocky ground at the edge of churning water. Pink-magenta wings â galaxy-dusted, alive with cosmic light â unfurling from her back. A glowing blue stone at her throat. And above her, pouring down like a trumpet made entirely of light, a starburst of pure radiance that she is turning her face toward.
She is not hiding from it.
She is not asking if she deserves it.
She is not waiting until she feels more ready, more polished, more certain, more recovered, more caught up, more everything.
She is answering.
Here is what Judgement knows about writers specifically:
We are extraordinarily good at hearing the call and then... negotiating with it.
Yes, I hear you. Iâll get to you after I finish this other thing. After the kids are older. After the bills are handled. After I feel better. After Iâve learned enough. After Iâm sure it wonât be terrible.
After. After. After.
And the call keeps sounding. Patient. Relentless. Made of light.
Because hereâs the thing about a true creative calling â and I mean the deep one, the one that has been with you since you were young, the one that doesnât leave no matter how many years you spend doing other things:
It doesnât stop calling just because you stopped answering.
It waits. It circles back. It shows up in dreams and in the strange ache you feel reading someone elseâs book, thinking I have a story like that in me. It shows up in the ideas that wonât leave. In the characters who are more real to you than some actual people you know. In the worlds that exist, fully formed, just waiting for you to sit down and excavate them.
That is your Judgement moment. Not punishment. Not verdict.
Resurrection.
The call is asking: are you ready to stop negotiating and start answering?
Not perfectly. Not when everything is handled. Not when the timing is ideal.
Now. As you are. With what you have.
The ghostly figures surrounding the bear in this card â standing in the mist, watching â they are not judges. They are witnesses. Your ancestors. Everyone who carried the story before you and couldnât tell it. Everyone who is rooting for you from the other side of whatever divide separates the living from those who came before.
They are not waiting for you to be ready.
They are watching you become ready. Right now. In real time.
Three questions to sit with today:
What call have you been hearing that you keep negotiating with?
What story, project, or creative dream has been waiting â patiently, persistently â for you to finally turn your face toward it?
What would it feel like to stop asking if youâre ready and simply... answer?
đż Todayâs Practical Magick
The next time the negotiating voice shows up â after, when, once Iâve, someday â try this:
Stop. Put one hand on your chest where the blue gemstone would be if you were wearing it. Take one breath. And say quietly:
I hear it. Iâm answering.
Thatâs the whole spell. Thatâs Judgement in four words. đžâ¨
