Queen of Pentacles — The Permission Slip You've Been Waiting For
Let me set the scene for you.
It is currently 16 degrees outside. (when it was 80 degrees just a few days ago!)
There are two inches of snow on the ground.
It is also, inexplicably, St. Patrick’s Day already — which means somewhere out there, people are wearing plastic shamrock headbands in a bar, and I am here in my fuzzy socks making ravioli and absolutely zero apologies about it.
My back woke up this morning with strong “we are NOT doing that today” energy.
My body logged approximately 4 restless hours of sleep and submitted a formal complaint.
And my son is home, warm and safe, on the other side of a very small and very beloved house.
I pulled the Queen of Pentacles this morning and genuinely laughed out loud.
Because of COURSE I did. 🐾
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
Let me ask you something, and I want you to sit with it honestly:
When was the last time you gave yourself permission to rest — not because you’d earned it, not because everything on your list was handled, not because you’d hit a word count or cleared your inbox or finally responded to that one email that’s been haunting you since February —
But just... because you needed to?
The Queen of Pentacles doesn’t ask that question to make you feel guilty.
She asks it because she already knows the answer, and she’s looking at you with that particular brand of warm, no-nonsense, deeply loving patience that only a woman who has been through some things can manage.
She’s sitting in her garden — robes rich and earthy, pentacle in her lap, rabbits at her feet — and she is not hustling. She is not grinding. She is not waiting until the conditions are perfect or the to-do list is empty or the timing is finally right.
She is simply... tending.
To her garden. To her body. To her home. To herself.
And here’s the thing nobody tells you about the Queen of Pentacles:
She’s not resting because she finished everything. She’s resting because she knows that she IS the resource.
Writers — creatives — healers — builders — we have this deeply ingrained mythology that rest is a reward. That we have to earn the soft moment. That the cozy afternoon, the slow cup of tea, the afternoon on the couch with a good game and a warm cat — those things come AFTER.
After the chapter is done. After the launch is over. After the emails are answered. After everything is handled.
But here’s what the Queen of Pentacles knows that we keep forgetting:
Everything is never handled. The list does not end. And if you are waiting for it to end before you tend to yourself — you will be waiting forever.
She doesn’t wait for permission. She IS the permission.
And so are you.

What would change if you tended to yourself with the same practical, loving consistency you give to your work?
What would your writing look like — what would YOUR life look like — if the person who creates everything was actually, genuinely nourished?
🐾 Writers don’t just need inspiration. They need a body that isn’t running on fumes, a nervous system that isn’t perpetually braced, and the radical, quietly revolutionary belief that their own comfort matters.
The Queen of Pentacles says: tend to yourself first. Not last. Not eventually. Not after.
Now. While the snow falls. While the soup simmers. While the cat purrs on your feet.
Now is exactly the right time. 🌿
Today’s Practical Magick:
The next time you catch yourself thinking “I’ll rest when I finish this” — try replacing it with:
“I tend to myself so I can tend to everything else.”
Say it out loud if you can. Let your nervous system hear it in your own voice.
