This card showed up this morning like it had been waiting by the door.

Sitting there. Patient. A little dramatic. Ten swords, a figure face-down, the sky split between stormy dark and the pale light of a brilliant star.

And honestly? I laughed a little when I flipped it.

Because of course it did.

šŸ–Šļø Part 1: For the Writers

Let’s talk about the Ten of Swords and your story.

Not the story you’re writing — though we’ll get there — but the story you’re living in. The one running quietly in the background while you’re trying to build something real.

The Ten of Swords is the card of the final blow. The ending that can’t be undone. The moment where you stop being able to pretend something is still alive when it isn’t.

And for writers — for creatives — that can show up in some very specific, very sneaky ways:

  • The manuscript you keep circling back to fix instead of finishing, because finishing means it can be judged.

  • The series you’ve been ā€œalmost readyā€ to publish for longer than you’d like to admit.

  • The old version of your creative self — the one who wrote from scarcity, from proving something, from ā€œI’ll believe in this when someone else does firstā€ — that you keep accidentally inviting back to the table.

  • The story you tell yourself about why this isn’t the right time yet.

Here’s what the Ten of Swords actually means, underneath the dramatic imagery:

It’s already over. You just haven’t stopped carrying it yet.

The figure isn’t being stabbed in this card. The swords are already there. The battle — whatever it was — already ended. The only thing left to do is the hardest thing:

Admit it. Release it. And look at that horizon.

Because here’s what most people miss when they see this card and flinch:

Look at the sky in the Ten of Swords.

It seems dark — yes. Heavy and stormy and spent.

But look where the clouds are clearing?

A brilliant star is shining through.

It is always shining in this card. It never isn’t. The light is already there — it’s just that you have to stop staring at the swords long enough to see it.

šŸ”„ The Ten of Swords asks your writer-self:

  • What story about yourself and your work is it finally time to stop telling?

  • What have you been calling ā€œin progressā€ that is actually just ā€œI’m afraid to let this be done and realā€?

  • What old creative identity — the one built on hustle, or proving yourself, or waiting for permission — is it time to let stay face-down on the ground?

  • What’s the horizon you haven’t let yourself look at yet, because you’ve been too busy counting the swords?

🐾 Writers don’t just need inspiration. They need completion energy. The courage to call a thing finished, released, real — and then turn around and face what comes next.

The Ten of Swords says: the ending already happened. You’re allowed to stand up now.
