Page of Swords — Watch the Star Before You Chase It

On the difference between alertness and urgency — and why some days are for watching the sky, not swinging the sword.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

The Page of Swords doesn’t rush. Look at him — purple robe, sword lifted but not swinging, gaze tilted up toward a single bright star cutting through the cosmic dark. He’s not mid-battle. He’s not sprinting toward anything. He’s watching. Alert, curious, blade in hand should he need it — but right now, the sword’s job isn’t to strike. It’s to catch the starlight.

That’s the energy Pages carry. They’re the beginners, the scouts, the ones standing at the edge of something new with sharp eyes and an open mind — not yet weighed down by the exhaustion of the full journey, still capable of pure, clean observation.

For writers, this card shows up at a very particular moment: not when the plot demands action, but when your job is simply to notice. To watch the story before you chase it across the page. To let an idea reveal itself in its own time instead of hacking at it before you’ve even seen its shape.

The sword is lifted. The star is watched. Nothing is struck yet — and that’s exactly right.

We are so often taught that productivity means motion. That a good writing day is a busy writing day — pages produced, scenes drafted, word count climbing. But the Page of Swords knows something we forget: some of the most important creative work happens in the noticing. The listening. The standing still long enough to actually see the star before you decide which direction to swing.

  • Where in your work right now do you need to watch before you act?

  • What idea is still just a point of light on the horizon — not yet ready to be chased down and captured?

  • What would it feel like to trust your own alertness instead of forcing productivity?

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

The next time you feel the pull to do something with a half-formed idea — to force it into shape before it’s ready — try this instead:

Lift your gaze the way the bear does. Look for the one bright point cutting through the noise. Ask it, quietly: what are you, before I decide what to do with you?

Let the sword stay lifted a little longer. That’s the spell today. ⚔️✨🐾
