On recognizing the abundance that was always there — even before the rest arrives.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

The Ten of Cups is not a future card.

I want to say that again, because writers especially need to hear it: this is not a “someday” card.

It doesn’t show a bear staring at an empty horizon waiting for her ship to come in. It doesn’t show a bear making a vision board about the cups she wishes she had, or the light she hopes to reach eventually, or the community she’ll build once she’s finally successful enough to deserve one.

It shows five bears — golden, robed, gathered in a meadow at dusk — already standing there together. Already holding the cups. One of them has raised hers toward a burst of radiant light pouring out from its rim, face tilted upward, eyes soft, completely present in the joy of this moment. Not the next one. This one. Pink flowers bloom at their feet. Stars are coming out in the deep blue sky above them.

The cups are already full.

Writers live in the future tense. We are, as a breed, extraordinarily good at deferring our own arrival. We tell ourselves we’ll feel like real writers when we finish the book. We’ll let ourselves celebrate when it publishes. We’ll actually believe we’re successful when the royalties hit a certain number, when the reviews come in, when the next book does better, when the Kickstarter funds, when the —

You know this sentence. You’ve been living in it.

The Ten of Cups lands in your spread and says: stop. Look around. Look at what’s already here. The people who show up for you. The work you’ve made. The home you’ve built, even imperfectly. The cups that have been sitting in your hands this whole time while you were scanning the horizon for more.

Here is what this card knows about the creative life: you are not waiting for arrival. You have been arriving the whole time.

Every chapter you didn’t quit on. Every rewrite you survived. Every morning you showed up to the page when the page felt like a wall instead of a door. Every tiny brick you laid when it would have been easier to stop building — that was arrival. That IS arrival. You were inside it and you couldn’t see it because you were always looking just past it, toward a finish line that keeps moving.

The Ten of Cups asks you to raise your cup right now. Not when you’re ready. Not when the numbers are better. Not when you’re less tired or more certain or further along. Right now. In the middle of the becoming.

Because the light that radiates from that central cup in the card? It doesn’t come from the cup being fuller than everyone else’s. It comes from the bear who dared to lift hers toward the sky.

The community gathered around her? They lifted theirs too. That’s how the light multiplied.

Where are you already surrounded by more than you’ve been letting yourself count? What cup have you been holding all this time without ever lifting it? What would it feel like to declare — just for today — “I have arrived?”

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

Find one thing in your creative life that is already true. Not “will be” — already IS. Maybe it’s a word count. A finished chapter. A reader who wrote to you. A story that exists in the world now that didn’t exist before you made it.

Write it on a piece of paper. Hold it in both hands. Say out loud:

“This is real. I made this. This counts.”

Then put the paper somewhere you can see it today.

That’s the spell. That’s the whole spell. 🥂🐾
