On moving forward with steady purpose — and why raising the pentacle toward the stars is not arrogance. It’s navigation.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

Look at our bear... he’s not standing still. He’s not frozen in a field, staring at his pentacle like it might give him instructions if he looks hard enough. He’s not waiting for permission, waiting for the perfect conditions, waiting until he feels ready.

He’s moving.

The cobblestone path beneath his horse’s hooves is uneven. Rocky at the edges. The kind of path that takes attention to navigate — not because it’s treacherous, but because it asks you to stay present. To keep moving and pay attention at the same time. To trust the horse beneath you knows how to carry weight without being told every step.

And our bear-Knight is doing something the traditional card rarely shows:

He’s holding the pentacle UP.

Not clutching it. Not hiding it. Not studying it with furrowed brows. He’s raised it toward that impossible sky — all deep cosmic blue bleeding into rose and magenta, star clusters scattered like breadcrumbs from something larger than any of us — and he’s looking up at it. Using it like a lantern. Like a compass. Like he’s checking his light against the stars and finding that yes, he’s still headed the right direction.

That is a different kind of Knight than the one most tarot readers know.

This one knows where he’s going.

Here is what I want you to understand about the Knight of Pentacles energy today, especially if you are a writer in the middle of something hard, something long, something that has lost its initial shimmer and become instead just work:

👉 The glamour phase of a project is not the whole project.

There’s the spark — the beautiful wild idea, the first chapter that pours out like water, the Substack post that writes itself at midnight, the story concept that makes you sit up straight and say yes, THIS. That part feels like magic because it IS magic. That part is the stars in this card.

And then there’s the path.

The cobblestones. The uneven ground. The long middle stretch where you’re not at the beginning anymore — all that gorgeous possibility — and you’re not at the end yet — all that gorgeous relief — and you’re just... in it. Doing the work. One word, one chapter, one revision pass, one Substack post at a time.

Most writers abandon projects in the middle. Not because they’re lazy. Not because they don’t care…

But because the middle doesn’t feel like the stars anymore. It feels like cobblestones.

The Knight of Pentacles rides through the middle without stopping.

Not because he doesn’t feel it. Not because he’s numb to the long haul. But because he learned something the spark-chasers haven’t yet:

The pentacle doesn’t glow less just because the path got harder.

It’s still lit. You’re still moving. The stars are still there above you. You just have to hold the light up high enough to see by it.

  • Where in your writing life are you in the middle right now?

  • What project has lost its new-project shimmer and become just work — good work, necessary work, YOUR work, but work?

  • What would it mean to stop waiting for the spark to come back and instead hold your pentacle up, check it against the stars, and keep riding?

The path is cobblestone, not clouds. It was always going to be cobblestone.

That’s not a problem. That’s the point.

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

Before you open your manuscript, your Substack draft, your project file — whatever the cobblestone stretch is for you today — try this:

Write down one specific thing you will move forward today. Not finish. Not perfect. Move forward.

Name it. Make it real. Hold it up like a lit pentacle and say: this is where I’m headed.

Then get on the horse and go. 🐴🐾
