Eight of Cups â Walking Away, Walking Toward
The Eight of Cups showed up for me this morning, and whew, it had something powerful to say.
Itâs a card of release, yes â but not collapse. Itâs the card of choosing to leave the âsafe chaosâ behind to walk toward something more nourishing, even if itâs unknown.
And thatâs exactly where I am today.
𪜠Part 1: For the Writers
The Eight of Cups is the card of transition. It whispers:
Just because you can do all the things doesnât mean you should.
Just because something once fed you doesnât mean it still fills you.
Just because it looks stable on the surface doesnât mean itâs aligned with your soul.
Writers, we feel this deeply.
Maybe youâve clung to a genre that doesnât excite you anymore.
Maybe youâve been holding onto a newsletter schedule that feels like a grind instead of a gift.
Maybe youâve been forcing yourself into âhustleâ because it looks like the only way to survive.
But the Eight says: Youâre allowed to walk away from what drains you, and walk toward what sustains you.
This isnât about failure. Itâs about sovereignty.
And for us as creators? That might mean:
Retiring a series that no longer lights your fire.
Restructuring your schedule so writing gets your best hours, not your scraps.
Saying no to platforms, methods, or mentors that donât honor your voice.
Because when you walk away from what doesnât fit, you create space for the story â and the life â that does.
⨠Todayâs Practical Magick:
Write a list of three âold cupsâ in your author life that no longer nourish you. Burn them, bury them, or simply bless them goodbye. Then write down one new cup youâre walking toward.
