Death – Clearing the Old So the New Can Finally Reach You
The Death card slid out of my deck this morning with the kind of sass only a Major Arcana card can manage. The message was immediate and sharp:
“Something new wants to emerge in your life…
but first, baby-girl — you gotta release what’s already expired.”
And honestly?
She was right.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Death. She’s not the boogeyman — she’s the forest witch with pruning shears, cutting away what no longer nourishes the tree.
And today, she tapped me right between the eyes.
🐻 Part 1: For the Writers
The Death card is sacred, necessary, and wildly misunderstood.
She arrives when:
you’re clinging to an old draft that’s blocking the new book
you’re still writing from a wound you’ve already healed
you’re afraid to change because your identity is tied to what used to hurt
your tools, systems, or habits no longer fit the author you’re becoming
your creative life is outgrowing the container it used to fit in
Death is the moment your soul whispers:
“Honey… you can’t birth the next chapter while hauling corpses from the last one.”
What writers often forget is this:
**Creation requires destruction.
Rebirth requires relinquishing.
Your next book requires your next self.**
Death asks you to:
end a cycle
walk away from the draft that’s draining you
release the shame that’s kept you quiet
stop trying to resurrect expired versions of yourself
trust that clearing space will be rewarded
She’s the cosmic reminder that you are not meant to stay small.
And everything that’s breaking, leaving, or falling apart?
It’s not punishment.
It’s preparation.
What if the Universe is clearing the clutter so your next creative miracle has room to land?
Today’s Practical Magick:
When you feel the urge to cling, whisper:
“I release what no longer carries me.”
Do it three times.
Feel the shift.
