On the difference between fighting and reaching — and why not every crossed path is a conflict.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

Traditional tarot wants you to look at the Five of Wands and see a brawl. Five figures, staffs raised, chaos implied. But look at our bears.

Nobody’s swinging at anybody. Five cubs in purple robes, staffs lifted, all of them angled toward the exact same point of light exploding in the sky above them. Mouths open — not in battle cries, but in something closer to awe. Feet planted in a field of pink flowers, not a war zone.

This is not a fight. This is five separate creatures, each with their own staff, their own grip, their own angle of approach — all reaching for the same star.

Here’s what the Five of Wands actually knows about the creative life:

Multiple things pulling at your attention doesn’t automatically mean conflict. Sometimes it just means you’re surrounded by things that all matter, all at once. The manuscript. The Substack post. The dishes. The kitchen shelf. The person you love who’s about to walk through the door. None of these are fighting each other for supremacy. They’re all just... staffs, raised toward the same light — the life you’re building.

The chaos isn’t in the staffs. The chaos is in believing you have to swing all five of them yourself, at the same time, alone.

Five staffs, one star. Nobody has to win.

Where in your creative life have you been treating “many things need doing” as “everything is a crisis”? What would it look like to let your different priorities stand near each other instead of at war with each other? What’s the single point of light all your scattered tasks are actually converging toward?

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

Next time the day feels like five staffs crossing at once — deadlines, chores, people, plans — try this:

Pick one task. Just one. Hold it the way a bear holds a staff: with both hands, with purpose. Let the other four wait their turn in the circle. They’re not going anywhere. Say quietly: One staff at a time. We’re all reaching for the same star.

That’s it. That’s the spell. 🐾✨
