Queen of Pentacles — The Throne Is Made of What You Already Tend
On the unsexy, ordinary, utterly sacred art of feeding your own body and folding your own laundry — and why the abundance grows from exactly there.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Queen of Pentacles is not the flashiest card in the deck.
She doesn’t have lightning. She doesn’t have transformation. She doesn’t have a sword or a chariot or a tower crumbling in her wake. She has a chair, a coin in her lap, a garden growing around her feet, and sometimes a small animal at her side. And if you’ve been raised in hustle culture — or in any culture where your worth is measured in output — she can almost look boring.
She is not boring. She is the most quietly powerful card in the entire suit, and she is essential reading for anyone trying to build a creative life that lasts.
Because here is the secret of the Queen of Pentacles, the one that hustle culture cannot tell you because hustle culture cannot afford for you to hear it:
The work you do for nobody — the dishes, the laundry, the kettle, the watered plant, the body fed on time — is not the thing keeping you from your real work. It IS your real work. It is the floor every other thing gets built on.
Writers know how to romance the creation part. We know how to bleed for a sentence, sit up at 2am with a manuscript, dive deep into the imaginal world for hours on end. What we are sometimes terrible at is the foundation underneath the creation — the unsexy, repetitive, undocumented labor of keeping a body and a home running well enough that the creative work has somewhere to land when it arrives.
The Queen of Pentacles puts her hand gently on your shoulder and says: no, sweet one. Eat first. Tend the small kingdom. The book will still be there.
Her medicine for writers is not a productivity hack. It’s a spiritual reframe:
Your washed dish is a spell.
Your cooked meal is an act of devotion.
Your tidy desk is a temple cleared.
Your fed body is the altar you write from.
When you tend these things as if they matter — because they do — you stop being a writer who is fighting their daily life to get to the page. You become a writer whose daily life feeds the page. The work goes from being extracted to being grown.
That is the Queen of Pentacles’ secret. The throne is made of exactly what you already tend.
What in your daily life have you been treating as obstacle to your “real work” — that is, in fact, the foundation of it?
What would change if you blessed your laundry the way you bless your manuscript?
Where has your body been waiting to be tended like the sacred altar it actually is?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
The next time you find yourself doing a small repetitive task — washing a dish, folding a shirt, watering a plant — try this:
Slow your hands. Take one breath. And as you complete the small act, say quietly to yourself: This too is the work. This too is the spell.
That’s it. That’s the magic. The Queen of Pentacles built her entire empire on exactly that practice. 🐻🍵
