On charging forward without waiting for permission — and why sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just. keep. riding.

🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers

The Knight of Wands is not a subtle card.

He doesn’t whisper. He doesn’t suggest. He doesn’t leave little Post-it notes on your bathroom mirror that say maybe consider taking action sometime when you’re ready, no pressure.

He arrives in full golden armor, purple cape cracking in the wind behind him, torch blazing against a star-filled sky, riding a horse whose mane is literal fire — hooves striking sparks from the ground itself — and he looks straight ahead with the absolute, unshakeable certainty of someone who has already decided.

He is not waiting to feel ready. He is not waiting for ideal conditions. He is not waiting for anyone’s approval.

He is already moving.

You don’t need permission to ride toward what’s calling you.

Here’s what the Knight of Wands knows about the creative life:

Most of us are not suffering from a lack of talent. We are not suffering from a lack of ideas. We are not even, honestly, suffering from a lack of time — not entirely.

What we are suffering from is waiting.

Waiting until the outline is perfect. Until the platform is fully built. Until we feel more confident, more ready, more legitimate. Until someone we respect looks at what we’re doing and says yes, that counts, you may proceed.

The Knight of Wands pulls up on his fire-maned horse, looks at you with patient, steady bear eyes, and says: That moment is not coming. And you don’t need it.

He is the card of momentum over perfection. Of action over analysis. Of riding toward the thing that is calling you — even when the ground beneath you is still literally on fire — because forward motion is the point. Because the torch doesn’t light the path ahead until you’re already moving.

Writers need this card specifically because we live so much of our creative life in our heads. Planning. Revising the plan. Second-guessing the revised plan. Building elaborate internal arguments for why now is not quite the right moment.

The Knight of Wands is not interested in any of that.

He has a torch. He has a star-filled sky above him. He has a direction.

That’s enough. That’s always been enough.

  • Where in your creative life have you been waiting for conditions that will never be perfectly ideal?

  • What would it feel like to just... mount up and ride — messy, imperfect, blazing — toward the thing you actually want?

  • What is one thing you’ve been calling “not ready” that is actually just “not started”?

🌿 Today’s Practical Magick

The next time you catch yourself waiting — for the right moment, the right mood, the right level of readiness — try this instead:

Pick up the torch. Take one step forward. It doesn’t have to be a gallop. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It just has to be toward.

Say quietly to yourself: I am already moving. The fire lights the way as I go.

That’s it. That’s the spell. 🔥🐾
