Queen of Cups — She Showed Up Already Full
On emotional intelligence as a creative superpower — and what happens when you stop performing calm and actually arrive that way.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Queen of Cups doesn’t perform being okay.
That’s the thing about her that most people miss. She’s not the card of someone who has it all together on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside. She’s not the card of the person gritting her teeth through the hard conversation, white-knuckling it through the scary call, forcing herself to seem professional while her nervous system screams.
She’s the card of someone who did the inner work before she walked in the room. And because of that — because the cup was already full when she arrived — she didn’t need anything from the situation. She could just be present in it.
For writers, this distinction is everything.
We are, most of us, deeply feeling people. Sensitive. Porous. The kind of humans who cry at commercials and carry strangers’ emotions home in our pockets and feel the weather change three days before it happens.
The world has a lot of opinions about that.
It has called it too much, too intense, too emotional, too sensitive — as though the very thing that makes us able to write true things is a defect we should be managing rather than a gift we should be developing.
The Queen of Cups looks at all of that and says: you’ve been thinking about this backwards.
Your emotional depth is not the thing you bring to the page despite. It is the thing you bring to the page because. The reader who cries at chapter twelve? They cry because you felt it first. The character who breaks someone’s heart? She breaks it because you understood, from the inside, exactly how that particular kind of breaking feels. Your sensitivity isn’t getting in the way of the work. Your sensitivity IS the work.
The cup was already full. That’s why she could pour.
But here’s the part that requires the practice: the Queen of Cups doesn’t just feel everything. She holds it. There is a difference between being flooded by emotion and being filled by it — and the Queen has learned, through long and sometimes painful work, to know which is which. She can sit with the hard feeling without being swept away by it. She can bring her full emotional truth to the page without drowning in it. She can walk into a difficult conversation already resourced — which means she doesn’t need the conversation to go a certain way. She can just let it be what it is.
That is the creative superpower nobody talks about: the writer who arrives at the blank page already full doesn’t need the page to validate her. She doesn’t need the scene to work out right on the first try, or the chapter to be brilliant before she’s earned the next one. She brings what she has. She pours steadily. And the work receives it.
Where in your creative life are you showing up already depleted — hoping the writing will fill you — instead of tending your own cup first so you have something real to pour?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
Before you sit down to write today, try this: place both hands flat on your chest. Take one slow breath and ask yourself, genuinely — is my cup full enough to write from, or am I hoping the writing will fill it?
If the answer is full enough: open the document. Pour. If the answer is empty: do one small thing to fill it first. Tea. A song. Five minutes outside. One true thing said out loud to yourself or to someone who loves you.
The Queen of Cups knows the writing is better when the writer is resourced. She is not being precious. She is being wise. 🥤🐾

This is where The Mojo Mama Bear gets bear-bones honest about what the card stirred up this morning, and what it looks like in a real, unglamorous, completely unhinged Monday in the life of a working author-entrepreneur who pulled the Queen of Cups at 7:54am and then watched her prophecy herself into one of the wildest days she’s had in recent memory.
Buckle up, hon. It got 💃🤩💃 out here today.
