Wheel of Fortune — You Don't Have to Turn It Yourself
On watching the cosmos spin, reaching toward it anyway, and why some cycles complete without you lifting a paw.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Wheel of Fortune doesn’t ask permission before it turns. In this card, Mama Bear stands at the edge of a stone cliff, wrapped in deep purple robes, one paw outstretched — not gripping, not grasping, just... reaching. Above her, a massive wheel spins in the star-strewn dark, glowing gold and pink at its center like a heartbeat made of light. It looks part clock, part galaxy, part old, old magic. Beside her, four cubs sit along the rock ledge, faces tilted up, watching the same light she’s watching.
Nobody in this image is turning the wheel. Nobody’s cranking a lever or straining against gears. They’re witnessing it. Reaching toward it. Trusting its motion.
That’s a hard lesson for writers, especially the ones who built their whole survival strategy around control. We plan the outline. We chart the launch. We build the spreadsheet with the perfect release-week numbers already penciled in. And then life laughs, tilts its head, and reminds us: some things turn on their own timeline, not ours.
The Wheel of Fortune isn’t telling you to stop reaching. Mama Bear is still reaching — that outstretched paw matters. It’s telling you that reaching and controlling are two different postures. One is open-handed. One is a fist.
Where in your creative life have you been white-knuckling something that’s actually already in motion?
What would it feel like to keep your paw extended — engaged, ready, present — without needing to be the one spinning the wheel?
Who’s sitting beside you on the ledge, watching the same light, whether you’ve noticed them or not?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
Next time you catch yourself trying to force an outcome — sales numbers, a launch date, a body that won’t cooperate — try this:
Open your hand, palm up, like Mama Bear’s. Look at something bright, even if it’s just a lamp or the sun through a window. Say quietly: The wheel is already turning. I don’t have to spin it alone.
That’s it. That’s the whole spell. 🌀🐾
