Seven of Wands — The Hill Is Already Yours
On standing your ground without raising your voice — and why the ground you’ve already earned can hold you up while you rest.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Seven of Wands has a reputation.
Most decks paint it as a brawl — one lone figure up on the high ground, six wands jabbing up from below, the whole scene tense and embattled, teeth gritted, defend, defend, defend. It’s the card people brace for. The card of the exhausting, lonely stand.
But look at our bear. He isn’t fighting. He’s standing.
Up on his rocky hill, wrapped in his dusk-purple robe, he holds one tall wand aloft — and crowning it isn’t a weapon. It’s a star, blazing gold against the deepening blue. The wand in his paw has burst into soft pink blossom. His other paw rests easy on the staff, planted firm in the earth beside him. And the other wands rising around him? They’re blooming too. Not enemies closing in. More like an honor guard. Below him, a river winds through the whole valley he can see — because he climbed.
This is the Seven of Wands as it actually works in a creative life: not a frantic defense, but a calm one. You climbed. You earned the height. And now your only job is to keep standing on the ground that is already yours.
Here’s where it shows up for writers:
You put something into the world — a book, a post, a piece of your actual heart — and the second it lands, a voice starts up. Do more. Post everywhere. Prove it. Defend it. Justify the space you’re taking up. The voice sounds like ambition, but it feels like panic. And it will have you swinging wildly at wands that were never even attacking.
The Seven of Wands puts a steady paw on your arm and says: you don’t have to.
You don’t have to shout to hold your ground. You just have to stand.
The bear’s wand is blossoming because the position he holds is alive. He’s not white-knuckling a dead patch of dirt — he’s tending something that is flowering right where he planted it. Your voice, your work, your right to move at your own pace — that’s the hill. It doesn’t need you to brawl for it. It needs you to stand on it like you believe it’s yours.
Because it is.
Where in your creative life are you swinging at wands that aren’t actually attacking?
What ground have you already earned that you keep feeling like you have to re-justify?
What would it feel like to hold your position calmly — no shouting, no sprinting, just standing?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
The next time that do-more-prove-it voice spikes, try this before you reach for a wand to swing:
Put both feet flat on the floor. Press them down until you can feel the ground push back up against you. Take one slow breath, and say quietly: This ground is mine. I don’t have to fight for it. I only have to stand here.
That’s it. That’s the spell. Feet down, star up. 🌟🐾
