Six of Wands â The Torch Is Still Burning
On victory that arrives in the dark â and why you donât need daylight to know youâve won.
đď¸ Part 1: For the Writers
The Six of Wands is not a quiet card.
But hereâs what nobody tells you about it: in the Bear Bones version, the bear isnât riding into sunshine. Sheâs riding into a night sky. Stars everywhere. A full golden moon glowing low on the left. The world is dark, the path is lit by wildflowers and firelight, and sheâs moving anyway â purple cloak streaming behind her, torch held high, five more wands blazing at her back like a procession only she called.
No crowd. No fanfare. Just the horse, the flame, and the stars.
This is the Six of Wands that writers actually live.
Because writers donât usually win in front of an audience. We win in silence. We win in the 6am dark before anyone else is awake. We win at the moment we hit publish on a book nobody reads yet, or invoice a client for the first time under a business name we built from scratch, or finish a chapter that finally sounds like us after three rewrites that didnât.
The victory is real. The torch is lit. But often, weâre the only ones watching.
You donât need the crowd to make it count.
Hereâs what the bear on the white horse knows that the writers in the trenches keep forgetting:
The recognition doesnât have to be external to be real. The momentum doesnât require applause to be momentum. The torch is already burning â and it was burning before anyone looked up and noticed.
Writers are extraordinarily good at postponing their own victories. We say âIâll feel like I made it when...â and then we move the goalpost the moment we arrive. We tell ourselves the win doesnât count until the royalties are bigger, the list is longer, the inbox is fuller, the validation is louder.
The bear on the white horse is not doing that. She is riding. She is holding the torch. She has chosen to let it count â right now, in the dark, with the stars watching and the wildflowers nodding at her feet.
What win have you been waiting to feel?
What torch have you been holding that you havenât let yourself see yet?
What would it look like to ride â right now, in whatever dark youâre in â like someone who already knows theyâre winning?
đż Todayâs Practical Magick
Tonight, write down one victory youâve been quietly carrying that nobody else knows about yet. It doesnât have to be big. It just has to be real. Then read it out loud â even if only the cat is listening.
Thatâs the ceremony. Thatâs the crowd. Thatâs the torch raised under the stars. đĽđž
