Knight of Swords — Aim the Blade, Just Not at Everything
On charging forward with a clear mind — and the sovereign wisdom of dismounting before the horse drops.
🖊️ Part 1: For the Writers
The Knight of Swords does not stroll. He gallops. Sword lifted toward the stars, cape snapping behind him, eyes fixed dead ahead — he is the most forward-leaning figure in the whole deck. He is the rush of a brilliant idea at 2am. The electric, sudden “I know exactly what to do.” The chapter that pours out of you in one feverish sitting because the words finally caught fire and you couldn’t type fast enough.
And here’s the thing about that energy, hon: it is a gift. Writers live for the gallop. That decisive, clear-minded charge is how books actually get finished, how launches actually go live, how the thing in your head finally lands on the page. When the Knight is on your side, you are unstoppable.
The blade is sharp. The whole trick is aiming it at one thing.
But the Knight has a blind spot, and it sits right between his ears.
He is so busy charging that he forgets the horse gets tired. He’ll point that gleaming blade at everything at once — the draft AND the launch AND the newsletter AND the seven half-formed shiny ideas that galloped in this morning — and he’ll ride hard in every direction until he’s exhausted and somehow no closer to anywhere at all.
The Knight of Swords doesn’t fail by standing still. He fails by sprinting at all of it.
So, the card’s medicine today isn’t “go faster.” You already have the gallop. The medicine is aim. Pick the one charge that matters most. Ride it with your whole chest. And — this is the part the Knight always, always forgets — know when to rein it in, because the sovereign rider dismounts before the horse drops, not after.
Where in your creative life are you charging at everything at once instead of aiming at one thing?
What would it feel like to ride a single quest hard today — and let the rest wait without guilt?
Is the gallop carrying you forward right now, or just wearing out the horse?
🌿 Today’s Practical Magick
Before you charge at your whole to-do list, try this:
Write down everything you could do today. All of it. Then circle exactly one. Draw a soft, kind line through the rest — not deleted, not failed, just not today. Then ride that one thing the way the Knight rides his horse: clear-eyed, committed, and willing to dismount the very moment your body says enough.
That’s it. That’s the spell. 🗡️🐾
