The King of Swords doesn’t lean forward in his throne. He doesn’t need to.
Look at him — settled, upright, one paw resting easy on carved stone while the other holds a blade that’s already lit from within. He’s not gripping that sword like he’s about to swing it. He’s holding it like a man who has already won the argument and is simply waiting for the room to catch up.
That star above his head isn’t decoration. It’s confirmation. The universe already agrees with him. He doesn’t need applause to know he’s right — he needs you to listen.
Here’s what the King of Swords knows about the writing life, and about the business of being a writer:
There is a very specific kind of exhaustion that comes from over-explaining yourself. From padding an email with six apologetic qualifiers before you get to the actual ask. From writing “just wondering if maybe possibly you might have thought about” instead of simply asking the question. We do this because somewhere along the way we learned that taking up space — clearly, plainly, without cushioning — was dangerous. That someone might push back. That someone might not like us for it.
The King of Swords has never had that problem, and it isn’t because he’s cold. Look at those robes — that’s not armor, that’s royalty. He is warm and clear at the same time. Those aren’t opposites. That’s the whole lesson.
The blade doesn’t waver because it already knows what it’s for.

Write the one true sentence first. Not the padded version. The bare-bones one. Say it out loud once, alone, before you say it to anyone else. Then bring it with you, tucked in your pocket like a blade you don’t need to draw — just to know it’s there.
